Sergei Rachmaninov’s Vocalise is the last in a set of 14 songs written in 1912 and dedicated to prominent singers of the time.

The first 13 are set to texts by Russian romantic poets, but the Vocalise has no words, allowing the haunting voice of the cello alone to convey the depth of beauty and emotion.

This audio is not downloadable due to copyright restrictions.

Inbal Megiddo (cello) and Jian Liu (piano)

Recorded 1 May 2016, St Andrew's on the Terrace, Wellington by RNZ Concert.
