VIDEO: NZSO - Passion

From Music Alive, 7:15 pm on 29 August 2020

A former Conducting Fellow under the mentorship of LA Philharmonic’s Music Director Gustavo Dudamel, New Zealander Gemma New has led performances at Carnegie Hall and with the symphony orchestras of San Diego, Atlanta, Indianapolis, and San Francisco. Enjoy her intelligent interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony, Pathétique – the vehicle par excellence for expressivity and emotion.

NZSO Section Principal Cellist Andrew Joyce performs Elgar’s well-loved Cello Concerto in E minor. Andrew has been performing this concerto since he was a teenager and performs it with the NZSO for the first time.

Written in 2005 as the first NYO Composer-in-Residence commission, Robin Toan’s Tū-mata-uenga 'God of War, Spirit of Man' was inspired by the Māori story of creation.
