1pm Dame Gillian Whitehead is a true Icon

Dame Gillian Whitehead has been honoured with an Icon Award. The awards recognise New Zealand artists who contribute substantially to the country’s creative landscape. RNZ Concert presenter Nick Tipping had a special role at the awards evening and reports on who else has become an Icon.

1.30pm Real life “great leaders” inspire new Kiwi comedy

Stalin, Pol Pot and Donald Trump are the inspiration behind Problems, a high energy, high anxiety Kiwi comedy. Written by Joe Musaphia and directed by Gavin Rutherford Problems opens this week at Circa. They talk to Zoë George about their fascination with the past, how to write comedy and what Monty Python has to do with it.

The Cleveland Orchestra is celebrating 100 year in business. We hear their recording of Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder performed by soprano Measha Brueggergosman and conducted by Franz Welser-Möst.
