Group of angry men destroy stalls at Samoa market

A Samoa police contingent from the capital of Apia has been sent to Savaii to help with the investigations surrounding a fight and damage caused at the Salelologa market.

A video was posted on social media showing what happened at the market this morning.

One man is seen on the video carrying a 12 gauge rifle while others are seen damaging tables and chairs used to sell goods.

Eye witnesses said rocks were thrown and gun shots were fired.

Sources from Savaii said the incident was the result of a fight between several men of Salelavalu and Salelologa villages which started last Saturday.

There are unconfirmed reports of some houses being burnt as a result

A contingent of police officers from headquarters are travelling to Savaii to help police at there as a result.

Some people missed the morning ferry from Salelologa to Mulifanua in Upolu because of the fighting.

Police in Savaii said no arrest has been made but an investigation has begun.
