French Polynesia President Edouard Fritch threatened to resign last week over tension within his Tapura Huiraatira party, news reports say.

The party, which won an overwhelming majority in last month's election of a new assembly, is mainly made up of anti-independence politicians who either left the Tahoeraa Huiraatira party or were expelled from it in the course of the past decade.
Radio1 said some Tapura members felt too many ministerial and top assembly positions had gone to politicians of the former Atia Porinetia party, which in 2013 campaigned against the Tahoeraa.
The Tahoeraa split after the 2013 election, prompting Mr Fritch to form the Tapura which then absorbed the Atia Porinetia.
Some Fritch loyalists felt overlooked as the new line-up features many politicians who had been with Atia Porinetia, Radio1 said.
Amid the rifts, Sylvana Puhetini was reportedly removed from her role as leader of the Tapura group in the assembly.
