More training urged to protect Pacific's journalists

A journalism educator in the Pacific says more training and development for the region's journalists would better protect the media and improve transparency in the region.

The co-ordinator of the University of the South Pacific's journalism programme, Shailendra Singh, says university scholarships for journalists are scarce and training opportunities are far behind other parts of the world.

Dr Singh told Sally Round the lack of homegrown research into the media landscape is also a major gap.
