France obstructs Tahiti decolonisation process

Five years ago, the UN General Assembly re-inscribed French Polynesia on the decolonisation list, but France still refuses to acknowledge it.

At the same time, France is touting plans for a strengthened Indo-Pacific zone which it says extends from Paris to Papeete.

A leading pro-independence politician Moetai Brotherson says he is against French Polynesia being turned into a pawn on the chessboard of the superpowers.

He told Walter Zweifel he wished that France would respect the United Nations.
