Fiji Times not guilty verdict a victory for all Fijians

The lawyer for one of the men accused of sedition in the Fiji Times trial says their not guilty verdict is a victory for the people of Fiji.

The ruling was made today in the High Court in Suva.

The newspaper and three of its senior journalists were charged along with Josaia Waqabaca for a letter he wrote that the government said could incite hositility towards the country's minority Muslim population.

Mr Waqabaca's lawyer Aman Ravindra-Singh says the government sought the charges to supress free speech and political dissent.
