An academic says New Zealand Immigration should make more of an effort to review the Samoa quota ballot due to record numbers of people applying every year.
The quota ballot for Samoan nationals aged between 18 and 45 has not changed much since it was first set up as part of NZ's Friendship Treaty with Samoa.
Samoans whose numbers were drawn from this year's ballot can now lodge their formal applications but one of the toughest requirements is securing that genuine job offer.
Currently set at 1100 per year, Paul Spoonley of Massey University told Sara Vui-Talitu that applications numbers are continuing to trend upwards and show no signs of slowing.
