RNZ series received three awards at the NZ TV Awards tonight, winning Best Factual Series and Best Original Score for Fight for the Wild and Best Pasifika Programme for Untold Pacific History.

Double winner Fight for the Wild was produced by Peter Young, Tracey Roe and Dave Hansford for Fisheye Productions, with the score composed by Tom McLeod. The stunning four-part series explores the notion of Predator Free 2050.The series and accompanying podcast are available on rnz.co.nz/wild

Untold Pacific History was made by Lisa Taouma and Tuki Laumea at Tikilounge Productions, shining a light on five key stories in the Pacific that have been little-told in Aotearoa. The video and podcast series are available at rnz.co.nz/untoldpacific

RNZ’s Head of Content Megan Whelan says that it’s awesome to see these brilliant series acknowledged at the NZ TV Awards.

“Both of these series were made possible by the RNZ/NZ On Air Joint Innovation Fund, which kickstarted RNZ’s commissioning department, an important milestone in RNZ’s development as a multi-platform media organisation.

“It’s so important that stories like these are told, and we’re continuing to work with independent producers to make content that’s important to the people of Aotearoa – we currently have 17 more projects in production or pre-production.

“We’re also pleased that projects we’ve commissioned like these ones have been available to audiences via secondary platforms – Fight for the Wild also screened on TVNZ 1 and Untold Pacific History was on The Coconet.”

NZ Wars: Stories of Tainui was a finalist for Te Māngai Paho Best Māori Programme, after producers Great Southern Television won the same award for the previous two series in 2018 and 2020, as well as Best Documentary in 2018. A fourth series - NZ Wars: Stories of Wairau - will be released later this year.
