High Profile Business and Personal Finance Journalist Susan Edmunds Joins RNZ

A true love for helping people understand their finances and providing information that is accessible without being condescending is what drives RNZ’s new Money Correspondent, financial journalist Susan Edmunds.  

Edmunds is well known for her role at Stuff, where she has worked for nine years, most recently as their Money Editor.  

Less well known is that Edmunds started her journalism career working on radio, reading the news on Mai FM when she was 20. She also had stints at More FM, Radio Live, The Northern Advocate and Herald on Sunday. Away from journalism, Edmunds is a published author, both in the financial and fiction areas with titles ranging from ‘Starting Out, Starting Over: A single woman’s guide to money in New Zealand’ to ‘Mummy Needs Help’.  

Edmunds, who will start her role at RNZ in the coming months, is looking forward to the challenge of building RNZ’s audience in the personal finance and money sphere. 

“There is huge demand for good money content, and I’m always interested in the way that financial literacy can impact people’s lives and their standard of living. This is especially the case at the moment where the economy is undergoing a correction, and households are understandably feeling uncertain.”  

In the role of Money Correspondent, a new role for RNZ, Edmunds will work across RNZ’s platforms, providing analysis as well as working on breaking news and providing content from written stories to live Qs &As on the web and video explainers.  

RNZ Executive Editor, Verticals, Jeremy Rees said Edmunds has a unique knack for explaining technical money issues in a way that is both understandable and interesting for audiences. 

“Susan brings with her a deserved and loyal following through her years of business reporting that’s focused on personal finances. We are very much looking forward to Susan bringing her skills to RNZ audiences.”
