AT THE MOVIES #890   WHAT DO THEY WANT?

Simon Morris reviews three films that have a good idea who their audience is – a traditional feelgood movie from Australia, a tale of a French jeweller hiding from the Nazis, and a thriller described as “Jaws on dry land”.

A stitch in time sees an elderly ex-dressmaker decide to go back into business.  Starring TV and movie veteran Maggie Blincoe (Crocodile Dundee) and former pop star Glenn Shorrock (the Little River Band).

Farewell Mr Haffmann is based on an award-winning French stage play about a Jewish jeweller hiding from the Nazis in his own basement, while his former assistant makes a fortune using stolen gems.    Stars Daniel Auteuil (Jean de Florette) and Sara Giraudeau (TV’s The Bureau).

And Beast pits Idris Alba against a revenge-crazed lion in the African bush.   Idris plays a widower hoping that a mini-safari may be just the thing to mend things with his two young daughters.  Co-stars Sharlto Copley (District 9), and directed by Iceland’s Baltasar Kormakur (Everest).
