A New Zealand solider has been killed in Ukraine.

The New Zealand Defence Force says the solider was on leave without pay and not on active duty ..

They are still trying to understand the circumstances surrounding the death.

10:25 Turoa snow troubles

A lack of snow has brought an abrupt halt to the ski season at the Turoa skifield on Mt Ruapehu - but it's not a complete right off just yet.

Ruapehu Alpine Lifts which run the skifields at Turoa and Whakapapa says the lack of snow and a big drop in visitors has had a significant impact on its operations.

The impact will be felt at the bottom of the mountain in Ohakune which had been hoping for a bumper season.

Ben Wiggins who runs TCB Ski, Board and Bike talks to Karyn about the impact on the town.
