Recycling crisis hits New Zealand - report

From Morning Report, 6:13 am on 31 May 2018

A new report says New Zealand is in the grip of a recycling crisis. Last year China banned imports of various recyclable materials until the end of this year, and it's expected the ban will be extended. 82% of councils surveyed by the industry organisation WasteMinz indicated they'd been affected by the restrictions and were selling plastics at a lower price, stockpiling or struggling to find new buyers. WasteMinz chief executive Paul Evans told RNZ reporter Charlie Dreaver the current management of recyclables isn't efficient.
