Revelations of major steel failure in Waikato Expressway build

A major steel failure on the Waikato Expressway has come to light in emails the Transport Agency fought for two years to keep secret. In 2016 RNZ News learned bridge piles for the expressway failed to meet standards because of cheap Chinese reinforcing steel. Now it's emerged 600 huge steel rods imported from China also failed tests and couldn't be used as planned.
