Trump discrediting US intel 'deeply disturbing' - ex-FBI boss

From Morning Report, 8:10 am on 17 July 2018

There's widespread shock at Donald Trump's apparent willingness to take Vladimir Putin's word that Russia didn't try to interfere in the 2016 US elections. America's top intelligence officials have concluded it did try to meddle with the aim of helping Mr Trump beat Hillary Clinton. But Mr Trump says Mr Putin denied it strongly and he appeared to accept Mr Putin's denial. The former CIA director John Brennan called Mr Trump's comments "nothing short of treasonous." And the former National Security Agency Director Michael Hayden said in a tweet Mr Trump was "essentially confessing to the world that he believes Putin more the the United States of America and its agencies".

Ron Hosko is a former assistant director of the FBI. He talks to Guyon Espiner.
