Auckland's fuel tax

From The Panel, 4:08 pm on 30 April 2018

Auckland councillors have given the green light for regional fuel tax. It's now seeking public views on how it will be spent. The extra 11.5 cents per litre of fuel is expected to raise more than a billion dollars over the next decade.

The tax could be in effect by July.

Plus an internal email from a BP staffer has revealed the tactics the petrol company uses for pricing in different regions. It appears petrol price is not just dependent on the crude oil or the dollar but also about competition.

We ask the panelists whether this news surprised them and what it means for the industry.
