The consumer watchdog has laid 27 charges under the Fair Trading Act for false and misleading conduct concerning the Fibre-X service.

The commission claims calling the broadband service FibreX in advertising and marketing misled consumers into thinking they were being offered a full fibre-optic broadband service which it was not.

It also alleges Vodafone's website misled consumers about which services were available where.

Vodafone said it would defend the charges.

It said the Advertising Standards Authority examined Vodafone's advertising and gave it the all clear.
