A homicide inquiry is under way after a man's body was found at a property north of Whangarei.
Officers were called to an address on Church Road in Ngararatunua about 6.30pm.
The Armed Offenders Squad was sent out, and cordons were temporarily set up at each end of the road.
The police said in a statement that a man had been taken into custody, and was helping them with the investigation.
