A man has died after a hit and run in New Lynn, Auckland last night.

Police said the man in his early 50s was on Great North Road about 9pm when he was hit by a vehicle.
He received first aid at the scene but could not be revived.
Detective Sergeant Steve Salton said police believe the driver of the vehicle would have known that they struck someone.
He said the vehicle will have damage to the left front.
