It's one of four New Zealand beaches that ranked mid-way among the world's most expensive seaside day trips.

Netherlands-based online travel company Travelbird has released a global beach-price index which ranks more than 300 beaches from over 90 countries.

The results take into account the cost of sunscreen, a bottle of water, beer, lunch and ice cream.

Hahei Beach on the Coromandel Peninsula came in at 145th in the global index, and the most expensive beach to visit in New Zealand.

A daily outing there costs an average $64, when factoring in the five elements considered to be "essentials".

Karekare and Piha on Auckland's west coast plus Orewa on the Hibiscus Coast also feature on the index.

A Travelbird spokesperson said Anse Vata Beach in New Caledonia topped the index at $US91 ($NZ130).

A beach in Vietnman was the least costly at $US15 (NZ$21).
