Coll bows out of British Open

The New Zealand squash player Paul Coll's been beaten in the quarter-finals of the British Open by reigning World Champion Mohamed El Shorbagy of Egypt.

The two-time winner and world number one was forced to play for over an hour for his victory against Coll who sits at No.10 in the rankings.

El Shorbagy took the first game before Coll, who was competing in his first ever British Open quarter-final gained momentum to take the match to the top seed and prevail to level the scores in the second.

The third game proved decisive for the El Shorbagy as both players pushed themselves to their limits in a high-quality game which saw the Egyptian just edge it on the tie-break, 12-10, before battling on to take the match in fourth 11-6, 6-11, 12-10, 11-7 in a bruising encounter.

Coll was the only unseeded player to make it to the quarterfinals and the first New Zealander to do so since Ross Norman in 1993.
