New Zealand skiier Alice Robinson posted a solid eighth placing in the latest round of the giant slalom World Cup in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia on Sunday.

Robinson had some strong moments at the challenging Podkoren venue where she won her second career World Cup title three years ago.

The steep, soggy conditions left many big names struggling, including American great Mikaela Shiffrin, who was favoured to win but placed ninth.

Robinson made some small errors in her opening run to be placed 13th, before improving in her second run.

"My second run was pretty solid, there were some conditions that I'm not the best at, so I just tried to be clean, and I had a pretty solid run and a solid result. I am hoping to build on that as we continue into the new year," she said.

Robinson finished 1.77 seconds behind Canadian winner Valerie Grenier.

The course in the Slovenian Alps has become a favourite of the 27-year-old, who achieved her first win in the same discipline a year ago.

She finished 0.37 seconds ahead of Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami with Italy's Federica Brignone in third place, 0.51 seconds behind Grenier.
