Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Monday
The Situation
A front is moving north over the South Island, then the North Island from early Friday. Another front is spreading onto the South Island this evening, and is clearing the north of the North Island Friday night, followed by a cold southerly change. A ridge is spreading onto the South Island Friday night.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel and Bay of Plenty
Cloud increasing. Isolated showers this evening, becoming widespread for a time tomorrow, with possible thunderstorms.
Gisborne and Hawke's Bay
High cloud. A few showers possible tomorrow.
Waitomo to Wellington and Wairarapa, including Taumarunui, Taupo and Taihape
Cloudy. Isolated showers, turning to periods of rain tonight, possibly heavy, clearing tomorrow afternoon.
Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury
Partly cloudy. Rain at times for Canterbury High Country until tomorrow morning, and a few showers elsewhere. Severe northwest gales in Canterbury High Country, easing this evening.
Buller and Westland
Periods of rain, sometimes heavy, with thunderstorms possible for South Westland, clearing tomorrow evening.
Otago, Southland and Fiordland
Showers becoming widespread this evening, some heavy with possible thunderstorms about the coast, easing tomorrow afternoon. Snow to 500 metres tomorrow morning.
Chatham Islands
Rain developing tomorrow afternoon.
And the outlook for the following three days...
Saturday
North Island: Fine, apart from isolated showers along the west coast of Northland. South Island: Showers for Fiordland and southern Southland, and isolated ones about coastal Buller, fine elsewhere.
Sunday
North Island: Fine. South Island: Showers for Fiordland and Stewart Island, partly cloudy elsewhere in the west, fine in the east.
Monday
North Island: A few showers developing about Northland, Coromandel Peninsula and Gisborne, remaining fine elsewhere. South Island: Rain developing in Fiordland and a few showers later in the day elsewhere in the west, fine in the east.
And at the Chathams
Showers with strong southwesterlies on Saturday, continuing into early Sunday then easing. Partly cloudy with light winds for Monday.
