The New Zealand String Quartet performed this arrangement at Wellington's Opera House as part of Chamber Music New Zealand's 2009 Season. Traditionally one of the seven gospel phrases is spoken before each of the movements, followed by a gospel reading or a homily. For this event, the CMNZ commissioned New Zealand poet Dinah Hawken to compose and perform poetry expanding on each of the 'seven last words'.
