During his final year, Mozart wrote this work for Anton Stoll and the Baden parish church choir, to be sung at the celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi.

Mozart had befriended Stoll during his visits to Baden, where his wife often took the spa cure.

Profound and serene, the music's simplicity was tailored for the abilities of a provincial choir.
