English National Opera recently banned food and drink at its musical theatre and rock shows at the London Coliseum… now they are banning classical and opera fans’ picnics too. And music from Teddy Tahu Rhodes’ new album.

Effervescent American conductor Brett Mitchell is bringing a fresh energy to the NZSO when he conducts the performances of Bernstein at 100 and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. He spoke with Upbeat producer Zoë George about the influence Leonard Bernstein has had on him, why he got into conducting and how he manages to handle two completely different styles of music back to back.

We continue celebrating 100 years of the Cleveland Orchestra. Today it’s Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring conducted by Pierre Boulez. The recording won the 1971 Grammy for best classical performance.
