The New Zealand String Quartet is about to embark on a new nationwide tour. They’re celebrating the 30th anniversary of their first tour back in 1988 with some of the most groundbreaking works in the quartet's repertoire. Violinist Helene Pohl and Cellist Rolf Gjelsten talk with Upbeat.

The New Zealand String Quartet is certainly a taonga in the New Zealand cultural landscape. On their tour, called Turning Points, they’ll be playing some of the most groundbreaking works in the quartet's repertoire. Helene and Rolf talk about these great works, the wonderful venues they’ll be playing in, and how the NZSQ members work together in rehearsal.

To celebrate the famous collaboration of jazz legends Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, virtuoso trumpeter James Morrison – himself something of a legend – with fellow Australian vocalist Emma Paske return to New Zealand to perform with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra this Thursday. The multi-instrumentalist talks about how Louis Armstrong influenced him as a trumpeter and how his arrangements for James Morrison – a Celebration of Ella and Louis give the orchestra a chance to play like be a big band.
