On Friday night the orchestra’s collaborating with the group Shapeshifter; and then on Saturday, Phoenix – an appropriately titled concert, which we’ll be bringing to you live here on RNZ Concert.

Phoenix is also the name of a new commission specially for the occasion by Chris Cree-Brown.

Also on the programme, Respighi’s Pines of Rome, with additional players from Woolston Brass, to give the Town Hall acoustics a good workout; and Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos with Michael Houstoun and Tony Chen Lin.

Tony was asked to choose a new Steinway piano for the Christchurch Town Hall.
