Inspirare’s Resolution Through Celebration

From Upbeat, 1:00 pm on 20 March 2019

Wellington-based choir Inspirare is about to start its 2019 season on Saturday at Wellington’s Cathedral of St Paul.

In some ways, 2019 is a significant birthday for Inspirare.

Mark Stamper, the choir’s director, came up with the idea 10 years ago, but it was only in 2015 when he relocated from the USA to New Zealand that the dream was able to become a reality.

Inspirare describes its mission as being “to create music that will inspire and transform our audiences through unique and innovative repertoire”.

In Saturday’s concert, titled Alleluia: Resolution through Celebration, they sing fifteen settings of the Alleluia text dating from the 18th Century through to 2019.

“Resolution” is also something of an overarching theme for this year’s concert season, which is expanding to include not only choral concerts but also special solo vocal events with up-and-coming young opera stars.

Mark Stamper talks to Upbeat about this concert, the 2019 season and his vision for the future of Inspirare.
