Septura on tour

The British chamber group Septura is touring for Chamber Music NZ, and it’s a group with a difference – a brass septet, a new configuration in the otherwise crowded field of the chamber music world’s trios, quartets and quintets.

The three trumpeters, three trombonists and sole tuba player have performed already in Dunedin and Christchurch and undertaken a four-day residency in Nelson.

All of the players are principals in orchestras such as the London Symphony, Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, City of Birmingham Symphony, Basel Symphony and Aurora orchestras; and they also hold prestigious teaching positions as well.

And they’re good. No less a figure than star trumpeter Alison Balsom has said, “The standard is absolutely higher than brass playing has ever seen before”.
