The initiative to support promising young New Zealand singers has been active since 1996 when tenor Simon O’Neill was the first recipient.

Leading the judging panel this year was Sophie Joyce who is Director of the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program for the Metropolitan Opera.

Eva Radich spoke to Sophie Joyce about the quality of the singers she heard competing for the Circle 100 scholarship.
