South Australia's former chief district court judge has been appointed a judge in Nauru.

Geoffrey Muecke retired in Adelaide at the end of 2016.
He is the first Australian appointed to the Nauru judiciary in four years, when the then chief justice and resident magistrate were effectively sacked after the government took exception to their decisions.
Those actions sparked an international outcry over concerns at judicial interference.
