Samoa police name three victims of earthworks accident

Three men who died on Monday after they were buried beneath earthworks they had been working on in Samoa, have been named by police.

There three were Meki Matau, Davide Laloata and Fogalefatu Tiatia.

Police said they were continuing to investigate the deaths of the trio which occurred at Tafua on Savai'i island.

They said preliminary investigations indicated a businessman from Satupa'itea village and seven of his workers went to mine sand from the site.

Three other men survived the landslide but one is still in a critical condition.

A coroner enquiry is set for mention in the district court on October 24.

Meanwhile the site were the accident happened has been closed indefinitely.
