Municipal meetings in far-flung archipelagos in French Polynesia can now legally be held via teleconference.
An amendment to the territorial code has been approved and published in the official journal.
This means that in the absence of air or shipping links, or if transport costs appear to be excessive, a mayor can allow a council member to join via video link.
For such a meeting, an assistant needs to assume the councillor's other administrative functions and has to be named in the call-up.
If there is a secret vote, a decision has to be postponed.
