The National newspaper reported the acting South Fly police commander, Soiwa Ricker, saying the movement of people travelling by sea between Western and Gulf provinces had also stopped.

He said the aim was to secure the international borders to stop foreigners travelling to Port Moresby to disrupt the summit.

The ban is to stay in place until 1 December.

Inspector Ricker said police had also recruited villagers to provide information on the movement of people across the borders.
