Two of the 24 candidates in the Tuvalu election are already guaranteed their seats as they're uncontested.

Over 6,000 people registered to cast their votes in eight constituencies in the country, with two seats allocated to each.

The elections officer Semi Malachi told RNZ Pacific the two candidates will be officially announced later this afternoon when polling closes.

"There was no election for this island called Nukulaelae," Malachi said.

"If there's only two candidates and there's two seats for the island constituency, then there will be no election because they will automatically become elected members for that community."

Malachi said there has been a good flow of people voting so far today.

"We opened up polling at 8 this morning and the turnout was really good, we went around and witnessed the turnout," he said.

"At the meantime everything is looking good."

As there are no political parties in Tuvalu, all candidates run as independents.
