Tonga Police is urging the public to "come forward and report" any information in relation to the Kolokihakaufisi siblings who were caught with more than 15kg of methamphetamine (over US$6 million in street vlaue) last week.
Tēvita Nonu Kolokihakaufisi, 39, and 'Ana Longolongo Kolokihakaufisi, 37, were arrested at their home last weekend and appeared at the Magistrates Court Friday.
The court granted bail to the sister 'Ana, while her brother Tevita, who is a senior official at the Tonga Reserve Bank, remains in custody.
"Police investigation into this matter is near completion," police said.
They are remindng the public that though the investigation may be nearing completion the matter is still an ongoing investigation and the defendants are innocent until proven guilty by the courts.
"Due to the sensitivity of the judicial processes and the independence of criminal investigation, we urge for the public support by refraining from spreading assumptions and opinions that may interfere and compromise the ongoing investigation."
Police said they were fully committed to protect our community from the negative impact of illicit drugs.
"We urge anyone with information related to the case and illicit drugs to come forward and report it to the police but not on social media as it does not help."
