The Fiji Meteorological Service says flood water is now receding but another similar rainfall event is forecast for later on Tuesday.
As of early Tuesday morning, a heavy rain warning remained in force for the northern division and the northern Lau group, while a heavy rain alert was in force for the rest of the Fiji group.
Senior forecaster Amit Singh said the maximum amount of rain reported was 420 millimetres over a 24 hour period.
"All the flood water has receded, now it's just occasional showers in Vanua Levu, otherwise the rest of Fiji is just cloudy periods," he said.
"But we do expect another rainfall event expected from later today."
Singh said 100 to 200 millimetres of rain is forecast within 24 hours and there's a possibility of flooding.
The areas predicted to be most affected are the whole of Viti Levu, Lomaiviti Group and the islands south of Viti Levu.
The education ministry has confirmed all schools have reopened for classes today.
On Sunday, about 12 evacuation centres were open in the west, sheltering about 230 people.
Permanent secretary for education Selina Kuruleca said schools that were used as evacuation centres have been cleared.
She is urging all teachers to assist in the preparation and clean-up of their schools.
"We want our school environment to be conducive to learning," Kuruleca said.
