A two year long programme to empower disenfranchised women in Samoa wound up last week on Friday 20 July with a ceremony in Apia.

UN Women Samoa's Papali'i Mele Mauala'ivao said the Nofotane Project aimed at upskilling women who have married into villages where they no longer have direct family support.

She says a US$200,000 grant from the global Fund for Gender Equality, or FGE, helped train 5000 women, establish 500 entrepreneurs and reach 237 villages.

Papali'i spoke with Dominic Godfrey and said it was Samoa Victim Support, the SVSG, that made it happen.
