Perth company looks for gold and copper in Bougainville

As the Papua New Guinea region of Bougainville ruminates over whether to allow mining to return to the controversial Panguna site, other mining projects are being contemplated.

There is currently a moratorium on a return to mining at Panguna - the spark for the region's brutal civil war.

But there is still a push to facilitate economic growth and mining remains a focal point for the autonomous Bougainville Government, given the region's promising geological data.

One mining company that has become involved is a Perth-based concern called Kalia Ltd, which is prospecting for gold and copper in Bougainville Island's north, as the chief executive, Terry Larkan, explained to Don Wiseman.
