A senior advisor on Papuan affairs to the miner Freeport McMoran says the local community will benefit greatly under the company's divestment from its Papua mine.
Freeport is negotiating with Jakarta over its divestment of 51 percent of its shares in its lucrative gold and copper mine in Papua province to Indonesian entities.
Michael Manufandu, who is a former mayor of Jayapura and Indonesia's former ambassador to Colombia, works as what he calls a kind of bridge between the company and local communities
He spoke to Johnny Blades about the divestment process.
