Workshop to strengthen PNG Justice system

From , 3:03 pm on 7 August 2018

The Papua New Guinea criminal justice system is working to improve the way it prosecutes family and sexual violence crimes involving children.

The child victims of these crimes are also the key witnesses.

The Australian Federal Police's detective sergeant Michelle Harris is in PNG working with the law and justice sector to improve the way prosecutors and police work with these children, and the quality of the evidence that's presented.

Ms Harris, who's with the PNG-Australian policing partnership, has been integral in the development of the Pikinini Witness Workshop which brings together all facets of the prosecution team.

She told Dominic Godfrey the workshop aims to reduce trauma to children during the interview process.
