The Cook Islands Tourism Industry Council's accreditation scheme is being strengthened so members offering water-based activities maintain appropriate standards.

It comes amid concerns over visitors losing their lives while kayaking and other activities.

The standards cover water safety information, including the need for flares, lifejackets, first aid kits and the correct certification.

The Tourism Industry council president, Sue Fletcher-Vea, told Don Wiseman about the scheme.
