From , 3:03 pm on 18 September 2018

Electoral officials in Solomon Islands are reminding voters and intending candidates of severe penalties that now exist under the country's new electoral law.

For major offences like bribery and fraudelent voting, the penalties include a maximum of 15 years imprisonment and/or fines of over $US19,000 as well as an automatic five year ban from voting or standing in any Solomons election.

Lesser offences like providing misleading information can still land offenders in jail for five years or see them paying fines of up to $US6000.

The chief electoral officer Mose Saitala spoke with Koroi Hawkins about some aspects of the new law.
