From , 5:03 am on 15 November 2018

The Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison says a speech he gave last week opened a new chapter between Australia and the Pacific.

On Thursday, he announced a new infrastructure bank, five new diplomatic missions, dedicated funding for Australian businesses in the Pacific and an increase in military cooperation.

But Matthew Dornan, from the Australian National University says some of the announcements Mr Morrison made don't meet the needs of the region.

He told Mackenzie Smith that details remain scant on projects like the new bank.
