Papuans displaced by ongoing armed conflict in Nduga regency are refusing calls for them to return home.

More than 2000 people have fled to neighbouring Jayawijaya regency as Indonesian military forces pursue the West Papua Liberation Army.

Military operations in the area intensified since December when the Liberation army massacred at least 16 Indonesians working on the Trans Papua Road project.

Speaking from Wamena, an Indonesian researcher conducting fieldwork in Papua, Hipolitus YR Wangge of Jakarta's Marthinus Academy, says groups of people continue to filter into neighbouring Jiyawijaya regency.
