Released at 3:15 pm on 25 October 2012

Awards have been announced for two senior Radio New Zealand journalists, Karen Brown, and Susan Murray, recognising their outstanding achievements in areas of specialist reporting.

Radio New Zealand Health Correspondent, Karen Brown, has been awarded the Australasian Colorectal Surgeons Society Media Prize for her recent Insight programme on bowel cancer which was broadcast on Radio New Zealand National in September.

Making the award announcement in Melbourne last week, the judging panel commented that the Insight programme had "provided a very descriptive, easily understood report on the pilot bowel screening program and the future of bowel screening in New Zealand. “

The annual media award covers Australia and New Zealand and seeks to identify the best media presentation that informs and promotes issues related to colorectal surgery.

Radio New Zealand National’s Country Life producer and presenter, Susan Murray, has won the Guild of Agricultural Journalists and Communicators, Sustainable Land Management Award, for her reporting on sustainability issues affecting local, national and global agribusiness. Susan Murray was also runner up in the Horticulture New Zealand journalism award.
