1:15 Vocal fry on the rise among Kiwi women

You may have heard it from guests on our show, or from American reality TV shows. We're talking about 'vocal fry'! That's when a person lowers and roughens their voice. 

Katy Perry, The Kardashians and Britney Spears are well-known for talking like this but the vocal style is now on the rise among young Kiwi women. 

That's the finding of a new research published in the New Zealand Medical Journal today. Its author, Professor Jeremy Hornibrook, is here to tell us why.

1:25 Vitamin deficiency in the developing world

The University of Otago's holdings its 11th annual conference on health this week, focusing on the developing world's most pressing health issues. 

This year Professor Kenneth Brown is the keynote speaker. Dr Brown is an expert on the epidemiology, treatment, and prevention of childhood malnutrition in lower-income countries and a senior fellow at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. 

He discusses what he thinks are the most serious health problems globally, including his work on vitamin deficiency.
