Riddle + Squizz: new show brings kids' questions & artwork to life

From Afternoons, 2:09 pm on 27 July 2018

Where did the universe come from?

Where do thoughts come from?

Why does glass break even though its strong?

A new online show called Riddle + Squizz is inspired by the questions and artwork of Kiwi kids.

It's now streaming on HEIHEI – a free (and ad-free) website and app for five to nine year olds.

Riddle + Squizz – which incorporates children's questions, photos, videos and artwork alongside that of adult artists and illustrators – is made by Hana Miller and Jacob Perkins of the Wellington production company RDYSTDY (Ready Steady).

The pair have two children together and got the idea for the show from their five year old's curious questions.

Any Kiwi child is welcome to submit a question, Hana says.

"We really want it to be reflective of the diverse range of kids around the country … the more the merrier."

Parents can send submissions on their children's behalf via the Riddle + Squizz webpage and Instagram page.

Two free Riddle + Squizz kids workshops are running at the Auckland gallery Objectspace on 25 August.
